IMPULSE STILL F**** UP SYSTEMS

Update wb for "N"times not working correctly

By on September 24, 2008 10:57:43 PM from Stardock Forums Stardock Forums

Thats sucks so much - a piece of software as bad as impulse I have never seen. If I didn't like wb so much you would loose more than one customer.

When will you guys the udpates right with impulse and XP

AGAIN (3rd timeminimum now) after updating wb6 I get an error message on startup  about wb needing another bootup and as always the stupid impulse routine didn't copy wblind.dll and wbserv.dll to the place it should on startup

I never had those problems with sdc -whats up with stardock - I am complaining about this every other update -you know what, Impulse is leaving my machine - that peace of software stinks !!!!

Why can't you get this done right, after shoving that b***t software down our throats to be able to be up to date. Don't you dare to stop supporting sdc - its incredible.

This is a normal xphomesp3 system german - nothing wierd, nothing special, just plain xp

Ah...the universal versatility of the word "fuck".....

In reviewing your past posts, my recommendation is to hit the Power button and, as fast as you can, get as far away from it as possible.

Life is just too fucking short.

I was happy to cut that FBomb out of your title for you.

I don't see a listed ticket for you in support. If you are having a good deal of trouble with our product please contact us at support@stardock.com. We would be happy to help.

 It never is any fun when things go wrong.  I run a normal XP Home SP3 system also.  Granted mind is not a German system but don't think that should cause anything different to happen.

Impulse should be loading WB to the correct location for it to start up.  Have you move any files to a different location on your hard drive?  Or have you moved files to a different partition or drive?

Ruben,

Since you have the German version of XP.  Do you maybe have non-standard folder names?   (ie. Special characters in the folder names)

I seem to remember reading something like that causing issues with Impulse somewhere on these forums (whish I could remember the thread.......)

There is a support ticket #EMG-751070

@2of3

So I am, interesting, how do you know, how can you proof your remark - other than trying to discredt people - why not staying off the thread?

@yrag

Do that, and we don't have to see you around here - that might be better, otherwise comment with ideas -maybe,if possible

It may be.

The Program Files directory isn't "Program Files" in all languages of windows (I.E in dutch windows it's "Programmer", and can be something else in Italian or Spanish - cna't remember which (we had a customer support issue where this was the case))

No, it's 'windowsblinds' that may pose a problem....or it's a simple typo....

This still doesn't explain why downloading and installing programs and updates work for others using Impulse and yet not for you Ruben.

I don't have an answer or suggestion other then what is different in how you have your system (files, directories etc) set up then say, me?  Silly question but are you sure you have not move things around?

September 25, 2008 12:55:02 PM from Stardock Forums Stardock Forums

yes I am, and as I said - sdc makes it without problem.

Temp directory by the way is E:\temp\

And, i thought Vista dual-booting between English/French situations was a wreck - i'll have to revise my opinion on OS stability or "other" concerns with multi-language configurations.

Here's what i think might be wrong;

- The default installation routine of Impulse requires to have a *SOLID* Ie7 infrastructure first, and Net_Framework 3+ second.

- XP is also very well known for re-assigning the IE calls when someone isn't using MS stuff as defaults.

- the "programme" re-naming conventions should be handled properly by Impulse (it does on my Vista setup with all shortcutting gimmicks used to multi-boot TWO local languages) unless the StarDock directory ***default installation*** structure is not kept as it was. Namely, a registry verification must be done to connect between the virtual call to IE and the directory of Impulse resources (including some of the usual dll files).

- BUT... there is also the odd chance that *another* item is interfering with the expected set of files. In such case, i really can't help without having a thorough diagnostic done on the PC itself.

sounds good, I think its again just bad coding - errormessage of impulse.log says -couldn't replace the mentioned files

So I need unlocker now first to be able to update via impulse? Its bad coding imho

       There is nothing wrong with the code for Impulse! The true problem is your machine and what you have on it.

I'll do you as with what ever and any computer manufacturer does. Get your machine back to a factory installed state and we will provide you with support. Otherwise it is your problem and we do not support issues where the machine in question has been made to work as you want it too. Thus you have problems and expect us to find what it is that is wrong and fix it for you.

Being this it is not our problem till you change things back to a factory installed state. Is that easy enough for you?

I'll be willing to bet you once you restore that computer to a factory installed state. That Impulse will run exactly as it should and you will not have any problems. Thus Stardock software is good and has no such bad code or other stuff you might think up wrong with it. Fact is your machine is trashed and needs to be formatted and reinstalled.

Or if you can figure it out as to what is causing your problem without doing such. Then all be it you are a better man than I...  Plus you have solved the problem and do not need support with your issue as such.

If you have yet to figure what I am saying then so be it. But it all comes down to this here and most companies follow the same rules.

We do not provide support for any and all circumstances related to system inoperability's as such where you have made changes to such the OS and/or other needed program componets. To which I'm saying you need to fix your computer before we will support a problem with our software.

This is a common practice at many program support sites for many manufactures. Which in this case it points out one thing. We will not fix your computer for you becuase you bought our software. Meaning you return the computer to a factory installed state and we will prodide you with support. Otherwise support is not our resposibility, it's yours due to a non factory installed state being used.

I DO NOT WORK FOR STARDOCK !!!

This is my opinion and what I have come accross here with support issues and how they are handled properly. I repeat myself again here "A lot and/or most companies are doing this now to keep from having to do support for inoperability's due to OS misuse".

Support is a very costly thing - we have people who work hard as ever to get the bugs out of things. But I think they need some help with things as to what and whenever there is a no need situation. The same goes for members here at this site who do there best to get another member fixed up with their problems. But most of them will work under whatever circumstances to get things figured out.

So my answer to you is as follows: Get your computer reinstalled with a clean OS and try to install Impulse again.

@Shellbygt

please go home - did you read the post, there are more of us out there.It happened already varias times and somehow - on the same system - stardcok than got it right for a while () So your post is nice, sounds so sensitive - but its no use

AND ONCE AGAIN - SDC does it right ALWAYS - so there is no way its my system.

Ruben

September 25, 2008 10:13:36 PM from WinCustomize Forums WinCustomize Forums

Ruben...the methodology of SDC was/is a little different to Impulse...so what 'always worked' on SDC does not always translate to 'always working on Impulse'.

I helped with one particular 'bug' during development....my system wasn't particularly odd at all.....SDC was fine....never had a problem installing anything from it ever....but debugging Impulse discovered I had one particular non-original font version that Impulse was expecting to be the standard Windows ver...and Impulse simply refused to even install/run.

Ultimately it was an easy fix...once detected...but that's what debugging is all about.

Hopefully the Support ticket will see you right....

It requires IE7?  Crap.  I never updated because I only heard bad things about IE7 from a compatibility standpoint, and now I see IE8 starting to creep out into the world.
